PRTs are civil–military units, composed of a limited number of soldiers (50 to 300 soldiers) in charge of security, and few civilians: diplomats and development agencies officers (USAID, DfID, GTZ, CIDA, etc. depending on the “nationality” of the PRT). Development officers and donors represented in PRTs can fund and support NGOs and local administrations to implement development projects. These units are fully multinational: composed of several nations, and but also integrate an Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) officer.

Now, each division of the Canadian Armed Forces has a CIMIC cell – using under Information operations or PsyOps.
