Counting years with seasonally varying parameters and converting depth scales to age scales is an old passion of the ice core community and sometimes a controversial area. Establishment of a depth to age scale is of course a prerequest for the interpretation of any ice core records. For the following discussion, let me assume that such a relation exists and is known.
